Whilst wandering between my workday tasks,
I paused upon a pavement near a tree,
And squinted through its leaves as if to ask
Just who it was that chittered thus at me.
And perched upon the loftiest of twigs
A hummingbird, afluff in coat of green,
Magenta scarf, and iridescent wig,
Demanded the location of his queen.
Delighted, how I wished I could preserve
His earnest likeness in my phone, but no,
It lay upon my desk; so I observed
A moment between him and me alone.
His tirade and conspicuous array,
In memory I’ll frequently replay.
Writing a poem is an excellent alternative to the snapshot.
I agree! Thanks!
