Since my last update, things have been pleasantly chaotic, and there are many good things to report.
First of all, I’ve joined Active Voice, a stable of bloggers for the nonprofit news site, Voice of San Diego. I cover the arts, so if you know of exiting goings-on in music, theater, opera, literature, dance, visual art, or any combination thereof, do contact me. You can read my first blog post on laughter and music-maknig here!
Next, I’ve had another short story provisionally accepted for publication (details forthcoming), and I’ve accepted an offer to co-edit an anthology (details also forthcoming). Thankfully, my contribution will be editorial and not organizational. I’m working on one other short story, and after I finish it and my various obligations to the anthology, I’m planning to take up The Novel again. I think I’ve gotten to the point that I can turn out a decent short story since I started focusing on them in late 2010, thanks to Ray Bradbury. Now, it’s time to get back to the 65K words that have been coughing politely since then in an attempt to regain my attention. The Novel might have started as a NaNoWriMo project, but there’s a big story in there that I’m very keen to tell. I just need to toss out the first half of it and start again.
And last but certainly not least (to me, anyway), I’ll be off skiing next week, so I might even be able to start and perhaps finish a book in 2013! I have none but myself to blame for taking on Proust.
Cheers!
